Job Summary

This is a full time, position located at a Clear Springs Foods, Inc. farm location.  This person must have the demonstrated ability to supervise and lead while at the same time function as a member of the team.  The person chosen for this position must be willing to work with other company farm locations as required.  The successful applicant should possess exceptional business acumen and communication skills, be experienced in fish husbandry and have good math, record keeping and computer skills.  An understanding of the principles of production-based quality assurance is beneficial.  Clear Springs Foods, Inc. is an employee owned company that is fully vertically integrated controlling all aspects of its food business from inception to market.  

 

Essential Functions

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all life stages of fish from eyed eggs to market sized animals.
  • Responsible for day-to-day management of farm-based quality assurance practices.
  • Perform critical reviews of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Train and supervise team members in the proper techniques of fish handling, sorting, pond inventory and sampling, fish transportation, and all other fish husbandry activities.
  • Participate in farm-based internal audits of production standards.
  • Schedule daily tasks and be responsible for their completion.
  • Prepare daily computer feed sheets and become proficient with the hatchery database program.
  • Solve short and long term fish health problems on the farm.
  • Oversee and coordinate all fish vaccinations and treatments.
  • Exam fish grossly and microscopically as needed.
  • Schedule and supervise fish population reductions and movements.
  • Maintain accurate and complete farm/hatchery records.
  • Ability to work flexible work schedules with varying hours as required.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
  • The position rotates on an as needed basis across the farms based on company needs.

  • Participate in discussions about confidential/sensitive matters.
  • Communicate with employees and others through written, oral and face-to-face interactions.
  • Participate in critical reviews of standard operating procedures.
  • Hands-on protocol development and training of team members.
  • Work with other team members to assure completion of work.
  • Communicate with fellow employees to complete tasks.
  • Ability to travel for continuing education and training.

 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business and/or fisheries with experience is preferred.
  • Computer knowledge, record keeping and organizational skills are required.
  • Exemplary Attendance and good work ethic are required.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and supervisory experience.
  • Experience with quality assurance or quality control is beneficial.
  • Ability to get along with people and work as a team.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to schedule and complete tasks efficiently and show success.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to communicate in order to adhere to safety standards.

Typical Physical Activity

This job involves heavy work exerting force occasionally and frequently to constantly move objects. 

The worker will be required to have a range of motion as follows: 

  • Often requires walking or moving to accomplish tasks.
  • Often requires standing for sustained periods of time.
  • Occasionally requires stooping and reaching.
  • Occasionally requires pushing using upper extremities to press against something with steady force.
  • Occasionally requires pulling or lifting using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, lift, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.
  • Lifting is required on a regular basis.
  • Repetitive Motions are required which involve substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

 

Typical Environmental Conditions

The worker is frequently subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.  The worker can be subject to cold and wet conditions during winter months; high temperature and sun exposure during summer months.  Employees are issued personal protective equipment including waders, gloves and rain gear.
